Chair's Report | Rīpoata Tiamana
This year, Outward Bound has embodied leadership in its truest form. I’m proud to reflect on the strides we’ve made in FY24 (1 July 2023 - 30 June 2024), a testament to our unwavering commitment to our kaupapa.
The year has presented testing economic times for our country, to which we have not been immune. However we remain committed to our strategic goal to reach ‘One in Every Whare’ - over a generation, we aspire to reach one in ten Kiwi.
We’ve taken significant steps towards our strategic goal - we’ve embarked on our digital transformation to drive efficiencies across our operations and lift our overall customer and people experience. We continue to evaluate locations for our second school in the North Island. This has seen us rule out several sites that do not meet our rigorous criteria, but we are confident we will find the perfect location. We’ve also made great progress in Anakiwa, with the construction of a new high ropes course, and have laid out the framework to future proof our existing school site, including infrastructure upgrades, site improvements and investment in our delivery model.
The impact of our team’s work is evident in the high Programme Evaluation Questionnaire (PEQ) scores and a Social Return on Investment (SROI) of 1:9.
These high PEQ and SROI metrics are a testament to the life-changing experiences we provide. As we look to the future, the Board is confident that Outward Bound will continue to lead, inspire, and make a profound difference to our course participants.
I’d like to thank my dedicated Board Members for their significant commitment and contribution this past year and acknowledge the service of our Foundation Trustees, Guardians and donor family. Lastly, to our Tumuaki CEO Malindi MacLean and her leadership team, thank you for your tireless energy and dedication to ensure we’re delivering on our vision ‘Better People. Better Communities. Better World.’
